Forty speakers from the broadcasting and media industry presented updates on the developments within DAB digital radio broadcasting and current initiatives and campaigns focused on driving digital radio adoption forward were also examined.
The event was opened by WorldDMB President Patrick Hannon, followed by Committee and regional updates from Europe, Asia Pacific and the Arab States. On the second day, the event delivered an overview of the Italian digital radio market with contributions from the Italian Government, the Vatican and broadcasters which was then followed by a focus on retail and marketing of within the digital radio market. Key strategic areas including the receiver market and the automotive industry were covered in detail with dedicated sessions. Contributions from mature markets provided bench marks for the future development of the digital broadcasting industry.
This year’s WorldDMB Award for Outstanding Service was awarded to Jørn Erik Jensen, Strategic Advisor at NRK Norway, and Past President of WorldDMB, in recognition of his leadership of WorldDMB (2009-2013) and his contribution to the successful deployment of DAB/DAB+ in Norway.
Jørn has almost thirty years’ experience within the radio industry since joining NRK in 1986 in the organisations radio music department where he became increasingly involved in programme production and development. He was involved in the creation of Norway’s first digital stations and in 1995, he created NRK’s first DAB only station, servicing classical music 24 hours a day.
He was presented the award by the previous year’s recipient Glyn Jones, General Manager for Digital Radio Platforms at Arqiva.
