Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) is the state radio network of Indonesia. The organisation is a public broadcasting service. It is a national radio station that broadcasts all over Indonesia and abroad to serve all Indonesian citizens throughout the nation and overseas. Its national news network Pro-3 broadcasts on 999kHz AM and 88.8MHz FM in the Jakarta area and is relayed by satellite and on FM in many Indonesian cities. Three other services are transmitted to the Jakarta area: Pro-1, Pro-2 and Pro-4. Regional stations operate in major cities throughout the country, producing local programmes as well as relaying national news and other programmes from RRI Jakarta. RRI Website

Global increase investment in national and local DAB

Global, the media & entertainment group, has today announced it will take significant capacity on the DAB digital radio D1 national multiplex, launching a host of new national digital stations over the next year. Global also continues to innovate, leading the industry with the new DAB “service following” initiative. This will facilitate seamless listening as people drive between local multiplexes, without a break in service and without drivers having to manually retune from one station or multiplex, to another. Service following is currently in final testing and launches on the vast majority of local DAB multiplexes in early 2015.

3 million a week listen to digital radio

Three million people are now listening to DAB digital radio in the five metropolitan capitals each week, according to GfK survey 7 figures released by Commercial Radio Australia. DAB+ figures show listening and sales of digital radios continue to outperform expectations. There are now over 23% of people in the five state capitals where DAB+ is available, listening on a DAB+ digital radio device.

Swedish Broadcasting Authority awards 25 licenses for commercial digital radio
06.10.2014 – Teracom AB – Sweden
The Swedish Broadcast Authority have announced licenses for commercial digital radio. A total of 25 channels have been awarded a license. 21 of which are national licenses and four are regional channels. 12 of the national channels are unique to digital radio and not broadcasted in FM. The licensing allows for a significant increase in range of programs throughout entire Sweden.

All requirements fulfilled for FM switch-off in Norway in 2017

Listening figures in Norway are now at 51 percent, exceeding the statutory requirement of 50 percent digital listening. The measurement is made in the period August to October. “We have long seen a very positive development in digital radio listening. Now we are delighted to have reached a new milestone. Such figures inspires us in our continuing efforts to offer more content to more listeners toward FM-extinction in 2017.” says Trygve Rønningen, CEO and Editor in Chief in P4 group.

BBC national digital radio continues to expand its DAB coverage
31.10.2014 – British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) – United Kingdom
The BBC has launched a further twelve national DAB transmitters bringing the total number of transmitters to 278 and covering more than 95% of the UK population. This is part of the current phase of their digital radio network expansion plan bringing a further 2 million people into the coverage area and increasing coverage from 93% to 97% by the end of 2015. The roll out is not only adding new areas into the coverage of the network but also improving reception for existing listeners in certain areas.

Bayern Rundfunk hold digital radio roadshows

DAB+ experts from Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Radio) and large electronics retailers will participate in a ‘road show’ to demonstrate the various facets and advantages of digital radio, starting this Friday, August 29, in the town of Landshut at the Media Market Gaußstraße 1.

EBU premiere “Visual Radio” at European Athletics Championships

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is enabling sports fans tuned to radio coverage of the Zurich 2014 European Athletics Championships this week to ‘see’ as well as hear the action for the first time. A DAB+ Slideshow where images are broadcast alongside the radio program and displayed on DAB+ digital radios with a colour screen, including the newest car receivers.

WorldDMB Member Organisations benefit from tailored technical demonstrations and workshops. WorldDMB helps organise tailored technology demonstration and workshops for its members who are looking to trial the DAB family of standards. All facets of organising the workshop and demonstration can be organised by the Project Office, utilising the different members’ skills, knowledge, products and offerings. At these workshops various topics can be covered, including information on regulatory affairs, receiver and chip developments, country updates and much more.
In addition to spoken presentations and workshops and seminars, practical technical sessions can also be arranged, for example drive-tests and live DAB demonstrations. If your member organisation is interested in holding a workshop or demonstration, please get in touch.
