  • 33 participants from 11 countries
  • Hands-on  practical DAB+ planning and rollout scenarios

Dr Les Sabel, WorldDAB

33 delegates from 11 different countries took part in the 3rd annual DAB+ digital radio workshop in Kuala Lumpur. Jointly hosted by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and WorldDAB, the five-day event built on successful previous workshops and covered the latest advances in DAB+ technology.

Sessions covered a wide range of topics from a practical perspective to provide delegates with the tools necessary to plan and deploy DAB+ networks.

Dr Amal Punchihewa, Director, ABU Technology welcomed delegates to the workshop which also featured additional presentations from Alex Ng of Gates-Air on transmitter technology, and Albert Tseng from Keystone Semiconductors on receivers, as well as proxy presentations from Factum Radioscape and All In Media.

The workshop featured a hands-on group exercise, where delegates were asked to plan the DAB+ rollout for a fictitious country of their making, including aspects of transmission, networking, services, regulation and timelines.

Exercise outputs were presented back and showed everyone had obtained a clear understanding of the material presented, keen to move forward and apply their new knowledge to the planning and deployment of DAB+ in their own countries.

The next DAB+ digital radio workshop will take place in Jordan from the 23-24 of August 2017 and is being run in partnership with ASBU. The workshop will feature a live trial demonstration with DAB+ on-air in Amman.
