With DAB+ in Germany going from strength to strength we’re expecting to see plenty of new receivers on show in Berlin at this year’s IFA.
Awareness of digital radio in Germany has increased significantly following new advertising and promotional campaigns earlier this year. ARD and Deutschlandradio ran a cross-media nationwide marketing campaign for DAB+ radio in May which included slots on radio, television and online as well as images for print use. The campaign focused on the listening experience, conveying typical listening situations and the joy of listening to the radio.
Last year total receiver sales in Germany crossed 8 million and sales are up on last year already. The recent campaign, with another starting just before IFA, and the expansion of both networks and services on-air should see DAB+ taking a much more prominent position this year.
So what can we expect in 2017?
Last year there were over 28 different companies showing DAB+ products, from standalone radios to Hi-Fi separates and portable radios to car head units. Norway’s digital switchover has had a significant impact on the receiver market, but particularly for car and home adapter products, so expect to see more of these.
If you missed out on IFA last year, then take a look at some of the DAB+ products we found here:
Later this month we’ll be publishing a map highlighting the companies showing DAB+ products this year. If you can’t attend in person, then follow us on Twitter and Facebook where we’ll be posting plenty of photos from Berlin next month.
