Why Hyundai joined WorldDAB

Lars Mueller, Senior Engineer at Hyundai, explains why they joined WorldDAB and how the radio and automotive sectors are working together on the future of in-car radio.

  • How long have you been involved in WorldDAB and why did you join?

“I have been working with WorldDAB for over 5 years now. We joined to get more information on DAB, to find out where and how it is being deployed.”

  • Why should auto manufacturers join WorldDAB?

“WorldDAB is the connection between broadcasters and manufactures and it’s an important role that it plays. There are still several issues for in-car digital radio, particularly on the broadcasters’ side, so bringing the two sectors together is key. Events like the Automotive Event are important to help solve these issues.”

  • Do you participate in any of the WorldDAB Committees/groups/task forces? If so, why?

“I have joined several committees and found that I learn a lot from each of them. Even for those with a lot of experience in radio, there are many different aspects of DAB and the committees are a great way to learn more and help solve technical challenges.”

  • What do you see as a particularly exciting area of development for digital radio in the next year?

“The development of hybrid radio is an area with a lot of potential – particularly when it comes to new features that the combination of DAB and IP will enable.”
